The biopsychosocial model of health care does not simply ask “What is the physical cause of this person’s condition?”, but takes into account other factors that might be contributing to a person’s illness and recovery. Bio refers to the physical component. Psycho refers to mental and emotional processes. Social refers to external and cultural influences. All of these can be important in understanding musculoskeletal pain and disability, particularly when symptoms have been there for a long time. At Furness Chiropractic we try to focus on the person, taking a biopsychosocial approach to the care we provide.
